Thanks for the information Josh! I wonder if they specifically modeled their special effects after his body(Leander Deeny) to make Chris Evans look small in the other scenes when they used the digital shrinking/muscle blurring technique.

I know that I am leaving comments almost a year too late. I have read all your comments with interest and although I bow to everyone's technical superiority as a mere Literature graduate I have to say that I have now watched 'Legacy' about 6 times in the last 3 months and I am utterly entralled by it. I actually had not seen the first Tron before I saw 'Legacy' and went back to seek it out for greater context and though I could see that in the 80s it would have been considered a landmark piece of cinema, I did not particularly engage in it like I did with 'Legacy.' Whilst I accept that CLU's face was devoid of human characteristics as was the young Kevin Flynn, I applied the cinematic equivalent of 'poetic licence' which enabled me to buy into what I was viewing. For me, I am also fascinated by the quest in anything I read or watch. Those of you who have studied English will be familiar with this theme which exists in most of the greatest literature ever written and in 'Legacy' you can see the parallels between this story and the knights of the medieval periods questing for the holy grail, which in this case for Kevin and his son (and indeed CLU who of course represents the flaws of the young Kevin) is the hunger for knowledge and perfection. It is ultimately the journey of mankind which hopefully leads to some sort of fulfilment.

I thought that the Bruce Boxleitner CGI was amazing, and completely believable. Admittedly the image is somewhat broken up by scan lines, but even when I saw it at the cinema, I thought they'd done a better job with him than CLU. Could be we aren't as familiar with Boxleitner, that he hasn't changed as much, or just that he was only in it briefly, but even watching it on DVD and freeze framing, it looks great, and I can't wait to see more of TRON in the next movie.

It has since been stated that most of the performance was his, except for the scene that had him strapped down going into the chamber. That is supposedly when they used the double and match moved his head on to it. The rest of the movie used the body shrinking technique.

actually, no, Chris Evans insisted that his performance be entirely his, so throughout all of his skinny scenes, it's always his face, head, and body. They used some kinda of body shrinking technique. but good theories, that's what i had thought until i watched an interview w/ him.
