3d Library Of Models
I must admit as an artist/animator, when it comes to doing my own work, I tend to be lazy. I also know that alot of other 3d modelers and animators are as well. Starting off, most don’t have a good work pipeline. They usually develop these at Film effects and videogame studios they get employed at. The problem is, getting employed there. It can be a daunting task to create a 3d portfolio full of animation in order to obtain a job. It can be an even bigger mental obstacle if you have to redo or create an entirely new portfolio to replace an outdated one. Back when I was in college, our professors told us to that we should have a new portfolio every year. The companies we are applying to may take note of how many times they’ve seen the same thing over and over again. I’m currently in the process of creating a new portfolio now. It’s difficult to do everything over from scratch. I’m trying to use videogame creation pipelines to help me out though.
What 3d modelers employed in the videogame industry do is they create things that can be used over and over again with different results. They may have a set have hands or boots that they just change slightly and they have a new model for animation. They’ll have a whole 3d library of models. With the advent of 3d modeling programs such as Zbrush you can easily modify existing sculptures without having to spend alot of time. This is the key.
